How many businesses do you know that follow up with customers? Have you ever received a “Thank You” card from a business after visiting them even if you didn’t purchase anything? If you did I bet you were pleasantly surprised. Did you know that a simple “Thank You” card could be worth hundreds of dollars to you and your business?
My sister recently shared with me an encounter she had with a clothing store while she was shopping for a formal dress for her daughter’s upcoming wedding. She had visited numerous stores and had narrowed down her selection to two different stores. The staff at both stores was very friendly and helpful. The two dresses were also pretty close in price. Although the dresses were exactly what she was looking for, they were both a little more than what she wanted to spend and couldn’t decide at the time. She told staff in both stores that she needed a little more time to think about it and would be getting back to them.
A few days had passed when she received a very nice thank you note from the sales person who had helped her from one of the stores. It was hand written from the sales person who had helped her at the store. My sister was pleasantly surprised. The next week she returned to that particular store to take another look at the dress. My sister received a warm welcome back by name from the staff, and the sales person asked if she could help her in any way. My sister went on to gladly purchase the dress. She told me that her decision was solely based on the fact that this particular store took the time to send her a “thank you” card and truly appreciated her business when she returned the following week.
Think about this. My sister made her purchase based on someone demonstrating that they cared. She liked both dresses, however the decision was easily made for her by a person who simply took a little extra time to send a “thank you” note. It made a lasting impression on her. By the way, would you like to know how much that simple thank you note was worth to that store? Over $400.00! Was it worth it? You bet! Perhaps not everyone would do what my sister did but it only takes a few who see the value in businesses that care, will share that pleasant experience with many others and who know what additional business it will lead to in the future.
I am a true believer in the power of a hand-written note sent in the mail. You don’t have to do big things to get your customers to buy and be loyal. Success is in the simple things and actions that we take. Find the time for you and your staff to do the same. I promise it will be MAGICAL!
Always Wishing You Magical Success!
