Are you losing good employees faster than you can hire new ones? You, like most businesses, are probably making three BIG mistakes that’s costing you time, money and the main cause of why your good people are leaving.
1. Hiring and filling positions with warm bodies and hope you can fix them
2. Tolerating bad performers and not holding people accountable.
3. Tolerating toxic employees in the workplace.
Have you ever heard of the quote, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with?” Most of us have a choice of who we hang around with. Experts, mentors, successful people, people we like, those who are more knowledgeable, caring people and fun to hang around with. Sound right?
Unfortunately, your employees don’t have a choice. They have to work with warm bodies who just want a job and not care about customers, fellow employees or your core values.
They also have to work side by side with toxic employees who complain, wine, do the bare minimum and rarely pitch in to help fellow teammates.
All because businesses and managers making these three mistakes of hiring warm bodies, tolerating nonperformers and tolerating toxic employees in the workplace. This is causing your best employees to leave and or your best employees to become average.
It’s hard to sore like an eagle when I am working with a bunch of turkeys.
Think about your own workplace. Are you working with a few turkeys? Do you feel there are workers who just come to work to earn a paycheck? Do you see employees not being held accountable to complete tasks, engage with customers, follow orders or live your core values? Are you working with employees who constantly wine about the work, have poor attitudes, do the bare minimum and are never around when you need them?
To often this is the norm rather than the exception in many businesses and organizations. When companies ask me to visit their locations to observe and evaluate their culture and customer experience, it doesn’t take me long to see what is actually going on day to day in their operation. It usually boils down to what I see employees doing and what I see employees are not doing that will define their culture, customer and employee experience.
I then tailor workshops for their leaders and staff to help them overcome and fix those three challenges to create the experience, leaders and team that EVERYONE loves and want to work with and for.
Employees do not quit companies they are quitting because of the people
they are forced to work with!
Take a look at your business and company. If you are a leader reading this, ask yourself if you are you making those same three mistakes and how you can change that. If you are a frontline magic maker, schedule a meeting with your leadership to share your thoughts on having to work with a bunch of turkeys and how that is so demotivating.
Stop trying to find great employees and instead focus on being the best business or company that everyone wants to find and work for. Remember your customers will never be happier than your employees. Create an environment of eagles and watch your customers and employee experience soar. Now that would be MAGICAL!
